Whats the difference between open and closed snowboarding turns? Well the answer is pretty simple, hence the reason this is only a 3 minute video. Was there any issues bending down to release them, with the lever being on the i side of your feet?
What's up with the video quality? Almost feels like I'm watching a Facebook live video, or a video game on an older computer where the scenery doesn't render until you get close. It's this just me? Usually your videos are crystal clear
Yeah this one is poorly rendered, most likely compressed
Looking forward to the course!❤
I broke my hipI broke my hip 1 month ago in the snowpark and I'm close to recovery. I know it's not your kind of content, which has helped me a lot to improve my snowboarding, but do you have in mind to make some videos about snowpark initiation? Thank you very much for everything, mentor. Greetings from Spain.
Thanks mate, this is helpful, do you have any vids on how to translate this and some of your other basics videos to young kids? Getting my 8 year old onto his toes and stacked over his toe edge is a hard thing to convey. Ski pole trick is a bit much to stick to, point and look like a cross-hair isn't the best technique but he gets that the most but still pushing into the snow on the balls of his feet instead of getting the knees over the edge 😢❤
…allows me to overtake these suckers😂😂😂as always great video
Awesome videos, love them. Is a 7 day lift pass to be used in 7 consecutive days ?
Is a 7 day lift pass for 7 consecutive days or can you do 1 day on and 1 day off,
Awesome, we're looking forward to your course!
Hi Malcolm thanks for the tip re mint tours. I just booked one in Japan in mid January thanks to you. You’ll love Japan. Last time I was there I boarded at Furano. Check it out and thanks for your channel 🤙
Awesome, you'll love it!
Whenever i do closed turns on steeper terrain the moguls make me bounce up and down and by the time i get back to the lodge my knees are busted😂
Can you make a video of reverts please and how these look and should be executed. Thanks.
Im holding you accountable Malcolm. Because of you, I bought 5 snowboards for my quiver and went 53 times this season. It was my first season. Your tips and tricks have helped me out immensely, and now I'm charging and hitting side hits with my buddies that have been riding forever. Thanks bud.
Everybody is a ski racer. Look at the boots that's the dead give away if they really are.
Thought can find you for a lesson while you in Japan (coz i live in Asia) .
very helpful, thx
Japan is a blast Malcom. Been there three times and for an average rider like me I have soooo enjoyed it. You will rock it
I’m so excited to hear that you’re coming to Japan!! And I’m so happy to see that you will be staying in Aizu - not boring Hokkaido. I’ve been to many different areas in Japan and snow in Aizu and Hokkaido is exactly the same. Which made me super angry when we went to Hokkaido, because Hokkaido is so much more expensive than staying on Honshu. So, I find it really cool that you’re appreciating a less well known spot of Japan. Where you can also experience the true Japan and not a tourist-friendly version of it.
Stoked to hear this, I was a bit apprehensive to join a trip not in Hokkaido to be honest, but I think it could be awesome!
Hey Malcolm, this is really good stuff. I’m personally more on the teaching side of snowboarding, and I’ve found your content invaluable to simplify that process. Thank you! I think you’re very gifted in deconstructing the techniques and focusing on the right aspects of riding. Probably a tall order, but I would sign up for a « teaching snowboarding » course from you! Enjoy Japan, you’ll love it!
Thanks man, yeah, will see how this first course goes, but I can always expand into other avenues!
Hope you'll be stopping in Nagano. Lot's of great resorts out here. Enjoy the trip!!!
Hell yeah! Have fun in Japan. So jealous! Can't wait to purchase the course. G.O.A.T. online teacher! Do you have stickers yet?!
Awesome thanks, no stickers I'm afraid at the moment!
Thank you for all the content you shared online, helped me a lot this season🎉. I am not yet at the level to ride off-piste 😢. Otherwise, would love to join the group and ride with you. Will you visit other ski resorts in Japan after the trip with Mint?
Got to get home and back to working unfortunately! Would love to stay out longer though!
Are you planning on doing hang outs outside the Mint Tours? I live near Hakuba and would love to join you and your team for a normal snowboard ride or a couple of beers!
Malcome, which board are you taking with you to Japan?
Aww man! Getting lessons from you while in Japan would have been the highlight to our 2025 trip! You basically thought our group from doing bunnies to single black runs within 2 years just from watching your guides. Hope the powgods bless your whole Japan trip!❄️
Love your videos, getting the online course for sure, and Hope to have some drills for the time we don't have snow here in Bulgaria, the hot summer time go get ready for the winter. Learning to Snowboard at 40 is hard but better late, than never.
Great to hear!
マールコム先生!日本に来て頂きありがとうございます!日本のスキー場にいる際の動画を楽しみにしてます!
I can't wait!
I visited Hokkaido last winter. It was epic. Good food, great people, and the best powder. Hope your trip will be the same.
nerd alert
Online course sounds amazing! I already went from being scared of red slope to enjoying a (easyish, single) black diamond last winter, just from listening and learning from your youtube videos, so I'm definitely checking that course out! What I would like to learn first is just basics on how to be safe and handle the board so I can enjoy the ride, then little more advanced stuff like small jumps and fast turns, e.g. riding in a wooded area where there isn't so much freedom to carve but you have to follow a path and dodge trees so handling speed and bumps is hard. And of course when the basic and advanced board handling is good, then maybe some tricks. I'm not too much into doing tricks in rails or jumps, I just enjoy riding but I would like to do some little tricks and "spice up" my riding with some of the stuff you've already shown in your videos, but I'm sure there's plenty more. As for technical side of the course it's nice to hear you are giving the explanation of why, this is something I really want to learn before I have my boots strapped in. But when I'm on the slope, would you consider having easy video tutorials that anyone could watch and try to repeat without too much of a trouble, unless this is exactly what you meant when you talked about it. 😊 Thank you for helping us newbies out! Good luck and have fun on your journey to Japan!
Hi Malcolm, I love the idea for the course. As you asked for suggestions here are my 2 cents. I actually pay for the Snowboard Addiction course and as “imitation is the greatest form of flattery” one thing it does well is to split the course into individual courses of beginner, intermediate and advanced. It helps a learner make sure they have the fundamentals down on each course before moving onto a more advanced course. One thing is doesn't do as well is structure the courses analytically. Gaps in knowledge can be as frustrating as struggling to learn a new skill. You have a great analytical approach to teaching which is appreciated and the best way of learning for most people (I’m a lecturer), so on that basis alone I’m 100% in on the course! See you in January! 🏂
Without the great friend there wouldn’t be a chance to capture this beautiful moment.
I will certainly join you on the Japan Pow :-) However, powder probably also often means poor visibility, right?. Any advice on the best ski goggles for such conditions? Preferably one with interchangeable lenses?
Keen

Japan is definitely on my future to do list. Would love to do a full country tour some day. Have fun
What summer😂😂 online course sounds great, will have to see what the bank manager says about the Japanese trip. Always a country I've wanted to go to ❤❤
What summer😂😂 online course sounds great, will have to see what the bank manager says about the Japanese trip. Always a country I've wanted to go to ❤❤
What's gonna be your main pow weapon? Short fat volume shifted or more all mountain focused?
No idea yet, maybe the stranda Biru, but possibly something a little softer, we'll see!
Hey Malcolm ! Awesome to hear you will be coming to Japan. It's definitely the best pow experience you can hope for! This past season was kinda sketchy with lots of warm waves that ruined many a pow days but I hope next winter smiles on us all ! Aizu is hardly the best tho... if you want the best conditions you should be going to somewhere in Hokkaido. I make the trip up there 3 times a season and it doesn't get any better than that in terms of conditions. Have not been to Aizu myself but I ride in the area too. so I can assure you it will be solid. Looking forward to hearing your take on JP riding. Be warned tho... you'll be hooked and there is no coming back from that lol
Yeah I did kind of think I would be going to Hokkaido but for a weeks course travelling from Europe Aizu made sense as you can get there really quickly from Tokyo, and hopefully we'll still get really good snow. The travel there is easier, the cost is alot cheaper, and it looks to be somewhat less Westernized. But yeah, fingers crossed for deep snow!
@malcolmmoore You are right tho. If you go to Niseko it's well westernized and crowded. But there are other spots in Hokkaido that are less crowded, more local ppl centric, and of course there is a ton of side country action. The main difference being the difference in conditions between Kanto area and Hokkaido. Gotta leave something for your next one ;)
You are going to LOVE Japan mate. The people, culture, service, food, efficiency & then there is the powder!! Fuck me!! I could go on and on. Currently planning our 9th trip for 2025. Over the years we have been all over Honshu & Hokkaido, epic trips on every visit. We were lucky enough to experience places like Niseko & Hakuba, Myoko before the western boom, but have been finding less frequented gems for the last decade. There is sooo much to discover out there. Enjoy! Can’t wait to see your videos/experiences in Japan
So I'm going to Aizu actually, perhaps more of a gamble compared to the snow up in Hokkaido, but hoping we can score it lucky down there. Have you ever been to that area?
You will love Japan Malcolm on and off the slopes. We love your channel and have improved out of site thanks to your tutorials . Hope to see you in Japow.
✌️
Awesome! The Online Course definitely would have been my go to choice if you had one earlier. At this point, I probably don't need it but would love to one day be able to book with you if I ever head out to the mountains over there. I might be doing a Japan trip but would be my own research. Learning Japanese just to be able to navigate around if I'm over there. Will be looking out for your next winter content!
Mint? Oy vey... I live in Japan and let's just say locals have a slightly different opinion about such operators, especially in Hokkaido. But I hope you'll enjoy japan!
Anyone you'd recommend? Keen to go back to Japan again sometime :)
Ok, that's interesting, it looked like they seem to be running a pretty tight operation over there. What's your take on them?
@@malcolmmoore Hokkaido in winter is Australia central. Hakuba is too, but not to that point. You will literally not see a Japanese face, apart from a guide here and there. Last season was the stuff that nightmares were made of. Of course tour operators (mainly Australian) always get priority, and because of that dynamic and the weak yen, they are pricing the locals out of their own area. There will be an Australian bus driver, Australian guesthouse/ hotel staff, Australian lifties, Australian cafeteria staff. At least folks who come independently contribute directly to the local economy without the middle men of the tour company. And these days with the super weak yen, it is very much appreciated. I understand it's just business, though. The locals will go and ride elsewhere. And I do hope you'll have a blast in Japan. I'm assuming you're doing Hokkaido? Anything in Honshu as well? Enjoy!
@@2catstrooper actually planning on going to Aizu to try and have a bit of a different experience. Admittedly I'm slightly nervous about going there instead of the north island because of the snow, but I'm hoping that we can score some good conditions and have a better experience down there. Also, my schedule is so hectic, coming up for one week it was much easier to get to, and also the overall cost was about half compared to some of the Hokkaido options. I appreciate your local insight for sure 👌
@@malcolmmoore Aizu is lovely but the snow can be very fickle. If you only have one week, personally, I wouldn't risk it. I'd go with Yokoteyama. As close to powder as you can get on the main island.
The tutorials you've already done have helped me improve massively. I am truly grateful to you Malcolm for your time and effort in producing some fantastic free content for wannabe shred heads.🤠YEEEHaa.😊
Going with my mates to Japan this Jan/Feb as well, hope you have an awesome time. I can't wait to get out there!
yahoo-Omg!you shared gorgeous !catch you later. )
I went snowboarding in Hakuba this February and the snow was EXCEPTIONAL... well worth the 15 hour flight ❤
You had me at "I have an online course"!
You will love that Japan trip mate! Did a trip through mint last winter and it was an amazing experience.
Can't wait!
